Welcome And Carnival Month Setup
SPEAKER_07Welcome to the Soka Chronicles. Ahsoka Chronicles with Shorns and Arkeo.
SPEAKER_03Welcome to episode 60 of the Ahsoka Chronicles, the podcast that brings you everything Ahsoka. I'm Archaeo, and I'm a D City sitting next to the one and only Sharns.
SPEAKER_05Yo Yo Yo Oh, classic. Yeah, I couldn't think of anything, but my brain just went blank, so yeah, I just refer back to the original yo yo yo.
SPEAKER_03You know Fair enough. Well, this month we're gonna talk a lot about all the carnivals that happened uh the last month. Um Carnival and one event where I'm gonna say it again. Yes yes. And this is you know an actual I mean you've played more abroad, but this is also abroad for you, so it counts. It was Belgium, Antrianza FaceTime.
SPEAKER_05Once again.
SPEAKER_03And I would also like to add that I've also played on Antrianza FaceTime.
SPEAKER_10Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Because Charles had to run to the toilet for two songs. So I played two songs, and I only messed up one. So that's a 50% hit rate, you know? There we go. That's what I'm saying. And the entire crowd went wild.
SPEAKER_05Literally, I came back to the crowd like, okay, get out of here, get out of here.
SPEAKER_03Listen. Yeah. Thank you. Good good things, good things.
SPEAKER_05Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.
SPEAKER_03But that was not all, because then we went backstage because obviously you are now a superstar and you get like the backstage classes and whatnot, so here we are.
SPEAKER_05But we met a superstar. Yeah, and we interviewed a superstar. Did we interview our KBM?
SPEAKER_03Hey one of the first artists I started listening to uh when I got into Soka. That was like a really good crazy.
SPEAKER_05Honestly, I feel like I was already a fan of GBM, but it was like after we met him and we interviewed him, etc. I'm like, I don't know, I just have like this extra love for GBM because he's such a humble guy an amazing guy, like honestly. Yeah. I feel like this is what happened when I met a problem child for the first time. I was like, oh my god, he's a cool guy on the earth. I love a problem child.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Literally. So that was like a GBM as well. I'm like, this guy's amazing. Honestly. Yeah. No, honestly, so oh man. Man. I'm I'm like a loss for words. When it shines at a loss of a word.
SPEAKER_03I mean you were a lot of words during the interview because you had been drinking, so that helps, I guess.
SPEAKER_05Bro, listen, I was so tipsy, yeah. Oh my god, it was actually insane. And I was like, I was trying my hardest to hold it down. And also, remember I needed to pee, so like my leg is shaking and I'm conscious of oh my god, this is being videoed, and you're probably gonna see my leg shaking like a crackhead during this video because I'm desperate for a pee.
SPEAKER_03Well, for the people on YouTube, you are going to watch this video and you can judge for yourself if uh trying to look like a crackhead. So well, so yeah, we had uh we had the opportunity and uh how do you say it the pleasure of interviewing GBM uh during his uh well after his uh performance on uh El Teasa Feesta. He was performing there with Naida Blackman actually, who was in the room while we interviewed GBM. So we can we just missed her because he just had a performance, he was uh neckers, as I say, in the UK. So we missed her, but uh you know, there's always the next time. And uh also like she's been posting a lot of very epic uh photos and videos of her performance on uh on her Instagram. So be sure to check it out as well. Yeah, it's been uh good show, man. Sure.
SPEAKER_05No, definitely, definitely.
Sharnz Takes Over In Belgium
SPEAKER_05But before we get into the interview with JVM, I just wanted to say this year Anthony Answer Facer was probably even better for me than last year. So last year was amazing, don't get me wrong. I had a time last year, but it was like this year just hot to last year. But also this year I was there for two nights instead of one like last year. And um yeah, obviously last year I did my thing, but this year I had a point to approve. So if you go on my Instagram and you will see the videos, I had people doing run with it, they had people on their shoulders, I had people palancing, I had people doing the soaper train going around, oh my goodness. I even played way over Cam. Like I don't think a single person apart from you and me knew that song in that tent. And I made them like just run towards the back of the tent. Honestly, I really enjoyed it. But the the joke is let me guys let me tell you guys a funny story. So uh obviously I told you I was there for two nights, right? So the first night um in that same tent, I also did like run with it, I did um palanques and all that stuff. But my phone died before I got to that point, so I had zero evidence of it, and I was so annoyed. I was like, oh my god, how am I gonna show what I just did? Because the videos I did take was during the build-up and people are just you know bubbling, there's nothing really much going on. It looks boring, you know what I mean? And I'm like, oh my god, this is all I have to show for it. And then obviously, my saviour, RKO, and his fiance were there on day two, and I was like, I have to repeat it. So I made sure they both knew, guys, both of you are my videographers for the night.
SPEAKER_03You actually hear it on one of the videos like a yellow film there!
SPEAKER_05So I literally just repeated what I did the night before, except I didn't play well with C the night before, and I added a little extra flavour of the second night. And I have footage which you'll be able to see if you look on my Instagram.
SPEAKER_03I was just about to say, what's your Instagram again? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_05Dj S-H-A-R-N-L-Z.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, make sure to check it out 100%.
SPEAKER_05Please comment, like, and let me know what you think.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. But circling back to what happened backstage, I know this I would have a spackstage, backstage stays backstage, except for when you're interviewing with a video and you're putting a video on YouTube. Anyway, let's have a listen to our interview with GBM, shall we? Note that Charles was slightly tipsy, and I hardly could get a word in at some point. Oh damn, I'm so sorry. No, no, no, no, no, it's all good. It's been a good interview. Uh let's have a listen.
SPEAKER_01Let's go.
Backstage Interview With GBM
SPEAKER_06Soca Chronicles.
SPEAKER_01We are here with the one and only GBM. GBM! Yes, welcome GBM. Yes. Thank you so much.
SPEAKER_09Thank you.
SPEAKER_01We appreciate you for making time exactly. You're all the superstar.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, honestly.
SPEAKER_01Honestly, we are in war. We are in war. So, first of all, we know that you make rhythms, right?
SPEAKER_09Yeah, I do produce as well.
SPEAKER_01You produce, you write for people, and you make your own songs?
SPEAKER_09Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01No way, you're a man of many talents.
SPEAKER_09Someone say.
SPEAKER_01You must be a millionaire by now.
SPEAKER_09Um, in terms of what, like money?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, money, assets, whatever. You've got to be a millionaire by now.
SPEAKER_09Assets? I think I think I've run through a couple of millions.
SPEAKER_01Oh, you because they're like a little hundred dollar stuff.
SPEAKER_09A hundred?
SPEAKER_01A hundred little hundred dollars.
SPEAKER_09Hundred guy's guy.
SPEAKER_01Actually, no, hundred great British pounds.
SPEAKER_04Okay, palms.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no problem.
SPEAKER_04Well, you guys, like the music.
SPEAKER_01Sorry, I get really distracted. So first of all, when did you get into soaper?
SPEAKER_09Soka, I would say I would say I got into soccer. Um, if you know we have a we have a lot of um I got into soccer, maybe 15 years old. 15 years old. Um I mean I'm from Chinese today. So I'm kinda like born into it exactly. A little simple. Yeah, um, being around and also have a lot of family members that are into music as well. Um so you know, just family time. I think it's just like most other musicians, right? You just kind of go into it.
SPEAKER_04But you not necessarily, right? So you if I remember correctly for my research, which I try to do sometimes, you started singing?
SPEAKER_09Yeah. So so I would have done like calypso competitions in school, um like school competitions, that type of thing. And I mean, I guess not so good, so good, but more calypso. Okay. And at first I didn't really my uncle was like writing and composing my songs for me. And um, I really wanted to do like more production and songwriting, um, but god kinda like called and I had to answer, so now I'm on stage in Belgium. There you go. First time in Belgium. My first time performing on stage in Belgium.
SPEAKER_05That's crazy. How has that been for you?
SPEAKER_09It was a truly amazing experience. Um again being from the Caribbean and growing up with music that's like in the house. You never really you never really understand how far and wide that culture goes until you have experiences like these, and then you see, you know, so much different phases, and they're singing all the songs with wood construction. I mean the fight and energy is amazing.
SPEAKER_01But I feel like in Europe and this crowd, they're more responsive and they react towards what we see in the UK. I feel like it's tossing them to put a hands in the end of whatever DJs. Me when you give an instruction, they've got an instruction! What's it gonna be like?
SPEAKER_09Uh not today, not today. Well, you know, different people enjoy different people enjoy things differently, and I think one of the you know one of the mean things about this festival in particular is that people come out for that festival and they come out. You don't even have to say put your hands in the ears, like everybody's so um I I think to be able to receive that kind of energy um and giving soaker in return is like a dream come true.
SPEAKER_05You're bringing so Belgium, yeah, yeah. Like Belgium doesn't really have a soaper audience like that, so we must feel so proud, honestly.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, absolutely feel you know really really honoured to be a part of this. I must pick up Nyla Blackman as well because definitely that's the princess of soaps.
unknownSo royalty right now.
SPEAKER_09Um, and to be able to share the stage with her on both days. Yes, yeah, it's just like to be able and the way that we did it too, you know. Day one, I had a full set, she did a feature in my set, yeah, day two, she had her full set, I featured in her set. So to be able to yeah, to be able to do it like that as well, be up to Nyland the whole team. 100% Nyland management, make sure management gives it forward.
SPEAKER_01Definitely, definitely, and also I saw that you were on Rebel Creation. That was their first ever like overseas getaway. How was that for you?
SPEAKER_09Oh man, Rebel Escape was truly an escape, like an escape from the normal just what Rebel did with the venues and what they did with the production, the casts, and they had the DJs, the artists, you know, big up to Rebel as well from the whole the whole team Rebels, Sons of UK, Caesars Army, everybody, you know. Um it was truly again another surreal experience because you go into somewhere like Croatia, yeah, listen. I can't even pronounce the tongue that we hit. I couldn't pronounce the tongue that we were in there like but this town, this town is like they they close for like eight months of the year, they only open for like four months of the year for like festivals and events and stuff, and um you know just to see the tune out of the the same response, the same energy of again people really like taking in soaker, taking in dance or the old Caribbean culture, just like soaking it all in and enjoying it. Um and again me being able to present what I do here, my songs, my my catalogue, surreal experience. Dream culture twice in one year. Crazy dream, there we go.
SPEAKER_05100%, 100%. So we're just gonna wrap this up a bit because we don't want to take too much of your time.
SPEAKER_01So this is the question we ask everybody who begins over here. So if you can be stuck in the studio with any so-called artist dead or alive, who would it be a white? So dead or alive?
SPEAKER_09Because of where I'm at right now, yo, I I would love to be s I would love to be stuck in the studio with Mighty Sharp.
SPEAKER_01Okay, have we had that one before?
SPEAKER_09Um and if you don't know his stuff, go on YouTube, check him out live, especially because a very different way of presenting Calypso and so well for what the music was at that time with a lot of content that is timeless.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_09Not even to mention his sound and the aesthetic of how he presented. I mean, to be able to pick somebody's musical brain like him, an icon like him, I think um I think the game wouldn't be able to stop me out.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's it, you would be you would be unstoppable. But you're unstoppable already, so you try to be like, what's his name? The guy who the rings. What's he called? Thanos. Yeah, you try to be Thanos? Nah nah nah nah nah nah nah you nah nah nah nah nah that's pretty, that's pretty You're already a superstar.
SPEAKER_09Thank you for that.
SPEAKER_01What more do you need?
SPEAKER_09I mean nothing really. I just need consistency. I feel at this point I'm very blessed and you know I I give thanks for the opportunities like this to see them. You were telling me I'm gonna tell them you too. He said to me that he's only into soca five, six years now. And I just wanna applaud you for doing something like this, connecting with soccer artists and putting the content out there, getting it out there. Thank you. She liked the song since yesterday. She was not playing. She was like, listen, I'm gonna find you. I'm gonna find you. And she did. And I think for me the blessing is being able to see how the music has influenced and just inspired people, how we get to connect through the culture and through the music. So I mean to be a real startup, it's a real blessing. Thank you guys. Appreciate it for doing the job.
SPEAKER_01Let me tell you what. Do you know how long it took me to speak to you? I was so shy. I saw you already about half an hour before. And I was like, alright, I'm gonna speak to him, and then I'll send him I can't. I was so shy, and I don't know if you noticed me like standing in the corner. But I was standing in that corner for so long and couldn't bring myself. And I messaged him like GBM's here, I'm gonna talk to him, I can't be shy.
SPEAKER_09And then I was like, Just do it, just do it. It's like short, just want to do it. Just want to do it.
SPEAKER_01And then I walked up to you and I pretended I had confidence. Did it seem like I was confident?
SPEAKER_09Did it seem like you were very confident? Like I said, she let me know. Hey, I'm gonna find you exactly. I appreciate that and I'm glad that you did.
SPEAKER_01I'm glad that you read the fact that you were like I'll do it this way. I appreciate honestly, you're amazing.
SPEAKER_04I'm gonna ask one more question. I'll say we go because as we're trying to try to go to, there might be some people watching.
unknownMight be gonna be yeah.
SPEAKER_04If you have to pick one song from your entire repertoire, yeah, what song would you advise them to this first? Um if I do a top three, I have to do a top 20 probably for the must be.
SPEAKER_09You know, you know, you know that's a that's that really is a tough question because I have I have a different um, you know, and and I must say big up to GB God Bless as well. Um brother, manager, DJ, friend, everything, everything, right? Um writer, co-producer, um and we we have so much different because he's a DJ fools, we have so much different uh conversations and I would say about different inspirations, different genres of music, different types of music, um, and and it all comes together when we work together soon. So you have songs like Calypso, that you know, you have the Jimbe in there, you have Raw, yeah, you have Raw lyrics, um, you know, you have songs like Dum Lee, that big up DJ Spider's Compa, it's Asian inspired, you know. Um and then you have like you have different things like Hero, you know, big up Tano, you have One Piece with Tano, you have finding songs and practice. I can't really give you one song that's gonna like say this song is GBM. Or just check him out. You check everything. Listen to GPM again and find out which songs you like because you then the catalogue goes even deeper than just my songs, it goes into songs like Benova with Marsha Mantel that we road and produce. That we roads and produce roads and produce Prescription with Rambi B rose and produce that one with that one. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, wait. Should I stop? Just go dig through a GI create and be sure it's like it.
SPEAKER_01Do you have like a favorite song of yours?
SPEAKER_09I have too many.
SPEAKER_01Um your favourite songs.
SPEAKER_09Right right now, right now, one of my favorite songs is definitely The Hero. Okay, um, you know, because uh just the emotion that the boots and I would say um there's an EP that I just released called Fuego. It's it's like the last project. Um I have some singles after that as well. There's a song called Liverpool, which is a song that it may not be as popular, but the vibe and the feeling and the message of the song is also something that dare to me. So right now, you know, and again, that could move around as I think perfect. It's a hard question, man. Why would you do me that on Ruben? Why would you know what? This interview is over. I'm done.
SPEAKER_04Thank you so much for your time. This is a good place to start. Thank you so much, man. Thank you so much. I appreciate you guys. Really perfect is all really happy to be thankful for being brilliant.
Crop Over Travel And DJ Stories
SPEAKER_03So back in the digital studio, yeah, man. I uh that was a good night, a good day, 100%.
SPEAKER_05Yep, I enjoyed that interview immensely. 100% honestly. Yep.
SPEAKER_03But this month in August, there were already a lot of good nights and good days because there were a lot of carnivals going on. Oh yeah. As now it's becoming more and more normal, there's 50% of the Soga Chronicles cost is present at these places. Some of the places anyway. So um I would like to invite at 50% of the Soga Chronicles to talk about Barbados.
SPEAKER_05Hey, crop over. You had to crop over, right?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Yes. So straight off to St. Lucia, I hopped on the small plane and I touched down at Ronnie Adams International Airport, and my my suitcase arrived, and luckily, if you don't know, with those small planes. That I travel with anyway, Inter-Caribbean Airlines, they have a reputation for being late, flights being cancelled, and your luggage not making it with you.
SPEAKER_03I know.
SPEAKER_05So yeah, it actually happened to one of my friends. His luggage was left in Barbados. Yeah, for two nights.
SPEAKER_03Oh wow.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. So he flew from Barbados to St. Lucia and they left his suitcase in Barbados.
SPEAKER_03Oh wow.
SPEAKER_05For two days. Crazy. Anyway, back to my story because you know I love to get sidetracked. Um Cropover was fantastic for me this year. I played with a different truck this year. So normally I play with colours. I've only ever played with colours before this year. So that was three years I played. Um well you say three years. Yeah. No. So I did 2023, 2024, and 2025. I did with colours. And this year I was with a band called Zulu. So they are one of the biggest bands in Barbados. Yeah. And that was a fantastic experience. Honestly, absolutely fantastic. Um, I enjoyed it. I also played on an event called Last Slap, which was on Kadumet Day actually. So Kadumuth Day, I was on the road the whole day, drinking, etc. I got back to my apartment and I was definitely tipsy.
SPEAKER_03You have to be if you want to continue.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, maybe a bit more than tipsy. And anybody who knows me knows that when I get tipsy, if I fall asleep, it's game over, mate. I'm not waking up. I won't hear any alarm. You literally have to shake me violently and give me whiplash to wake me up. That's if I wake up. Yeah, so I got back. I'm tipsy. I'm like, I can't lie down because I have to leave within the next hour and a half or two hours to get to my next booking. So I showered and I think I ate. And I just stood up. I would just stood up. I lit bro, I literally just stood up because I was like, if I sit down, lie down, I'm finished. And I made it to the eye. That's a good struggle. Yeah. But I made it to the booking early, actually. And I was like, damn, what do I play?
SPEAKER_03How does this machine work? I don't know. That would have been me.
SPEAKER_05What do I do? Um, because the people before me, they were playing dance with and they played soaker. So I was like, hmm, for me to play soaker again, hmm.
SPEAKER_03You went straight to Arthro, let me guess.
SPEAKER_05No, I didn't. I played reggae for like 15 just over 15 minutes, and then I went into soca. So and I hosted for myself, and my set went really well. It actually went really well. I was quite shocked. I shouldn't have to be a good idea. No, I was gonna say, I don't know, RKO, I don't know, but yeah, my set went really well. Everybody was impressed. Because they I know they looked at me because I went to set up and everything, and then I know they're looking at me like I bet this girl is sh sh ooh, let me not swear. I bet this girl is rubbish. I caught it just a tiny bit sweaty, but I bet this girl is rubbish, and then I held out my hand for the microphone, and they kind of gave me this side eye, like she wants the microphone, and then yeah, by the end of it, people were shaking my hand, they were like, Oh, that was an amazing set, you played so well, blah blah blah blah blah. I had a guy that does events in Trinidad actually came up to me and was like, I really want to book you in Trinidad. I'm like, ooh, so we exchanged details, etc. So let's see if anything comes of this. Because you know, some people like to chat and then they don't follow through with their action. So I'm not getting my hopes up, but you know, that would be interesting though. Yeah, no, definitely, definitely. Um let me get to my favourite event that I went to for Cropover was definitely Booze and Bacchanal. It was a boat party. When I tell you I had a time, I had a time.
SPEAKER_03Wasn't that your favourite last year as well? Probably, yeah. It sounds epic, nothing changed.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I had a time, honestly.
SPEAKER_03Nice.
SPEAKER_05Um Soker on the Hill was a vibe, but it's not like hype vibes. You know, you already know how it is. It's more like you know, you're watching the artists, whatever. And I mainly go there to catch up with friends, catch up with family, etc. Um, what other events did I really enjoy? I can't even remember off the top of my head. I should have I should have sat down and thought about this before I started talking about. Yeah, but it is what it is. Just know booze and back and out people, they do it in Miami, they do it in Trinidad, and they do it in Barbados. So if you are ever in any of these places where they do booze and back and out, make sure you buy a ticket. So Miami Carnival this year, I will be there. Make sure you get a ticket for booze and back and now.
SPEAKER_03And perhaps you'll be there, Trina. We'll see. We'll see.
SPEAKER_05Let's let's keep our fingers, our toes, our eyes, our airs, cheeks. Let's keep everything crossed.
SPEAKER_03Yes, exactly. 100%.
Soca Monarch And Road March Breakdown
SPEAKER_03But I think we should get down to business then.
SPEAKER_05I was literally gonna get to that. So, the results for Road March. Let's start with Road March. No, let's not. Let's start with Soker Monarch. Oh, that came before the Road March. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Um that was a wipe, wasn't it?
SPEAKER_05Listen, when I tell you, Mikey Mercer cleaned up this crop over, okay? And when I get to the Road March results, you're gonna know why. I've already given it away. But Mikey, so this was the first year of Soka Monarch for years in Barbados.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_05So they had the sweet soap and the party monarch. So sweet soap is obviously groovy, because you know sweet, groovy, blah blah blah. And then party monarch is the the power. So Mikey won the power with Lycabajan, and then he also won the sweet category as well. And then he also won Road March with Lycobajan.
SPEAKER_03Oh wow.
SPEAKER_05Which, you know, I could tell from when I got to Barbados, I could tell that that was gonna be the winner. Do you know what I mean? Because Barbados is celebrating 60 years of independence.
SPEAKER_03That makes sense.
SPEAKER_05And 10 years ago, when it celebrated 50, Lil Rick came out with Eyes of Asian.
SPEAKER_03Yep.
SPEAKER_05So it's like there's like a blueprint that you follow. Yeah, yeah. Have a patriotic song. Do you know what I mean? So he had that and everybody loved it, etc. etc. But my personal favourite song for the season came second. Like I really wanted this song to win Road March. And even when I was playing on the truck with Zulu, I played at Judging Point, and I played this song, I pulled it up. So I hope that registered as two plays. I really hope. But second place was Lead Pipe with that was she get. I believe that was last month's song of the month as well.
SPEAKER_03It was, but hold up, hold up, hold up. One step back.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_03You're playing at a at a at a judging point, yeah?
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Were you allowed to play whatever you like, or were you told to play something?
SPEAKER_05No, I I actually said, is there a particular song you want me to play? And they said no, play whatever you want. So I said, okay, cool. Boom, that what you get. And the thing is, the joke is I had already played that what she get earlier on in my set. I'm a re yeah, I'ma repeat it. I don't I don't care. I don't care.
SPEAKER_03I went to-I think three years ago when we were there in Barbados, you were complaining about the same songs being played the whole time and look at you now. Lukata anyway, sorry.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I really song to win.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah. Fair, fair. I would have done the same probably.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, literally. And then third place was Shaquille and Skinny Fabulous with a song called After All. So that song there is like quite an emotional one because it's about you know people who have passed away and stuff like that. So yeah, that song was a pretty popular song as well.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_05So yeah, those are the results for Crop Over, which is a festival and not a carnival. People don't forget that.
SPEAKER_03You've been taught many times again, probably. I I have had last time. Anyway. But then a week later or two weeks later?
SPEAKER_05Wait, pause. Before we get a week later, we need to play the song that won the road march, man.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_05We've got to play Lack of Bajan by Mikey.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Let's do it. Let's do it. Let's have a little little snippet at least.
SPEAKER_05Okay, let's go. So fingers music.
Grenada Spice Mas Winners And Vibes
SPEAKER_03This is my favorite, honestly. Like, um, I will say, obviously, there's always ups and downs, but still, it was a very good year. Last year was bigger, I dare say. But you know, Spice Mas and the job job, it it really won in popularity because it looked litty as always, to be honest. Um yeah, I mean, starting with Sokamonar, there it's funny because I was obviously at home in the Netherlands and I was watching some posts, and they were all posting the same thing. They were posting about this guy, Snake, on a live boat, or like an inflatable boat with a flare, crowdserving, yeah, and the tune behind it. Oh my god, the view, the tune, it was amazing. Yeah, so he obviously won. And to be clear, this is Snake with raging seas, um, which is also our song of the month, George. Yeah, do we just wanna chuck it in here?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, we might as well. So let's just listen to it because it is our song of the month.
SPEAKER_07This is the song of the month.
SPEAKER_12It's going down the ship who responsible for this ship, I want to do I need to go, quite me to the chapter, tell me, I got this ship, who is possible for this ship, I want to move, I need to do, quite jumping. You want to come in down time to move, fresh time, it's blowing like a typhoon Fresh time, all the tripping in the lagoon, fresh time, I'm gonna break out the crew, fresh time, stop the board really have to be right now. And this is a region, this is a red compass telling lies. Stop, do this turn from the bow, and we can't take no more, no more, no more. So yeah, what you want to put your racks and flax on massive rocky rocket mass, people what the point is. I don't want to know. Responsible for the ship I need to know what we do the chapter ship Who responsible for this ship? I want to know. I need to know what we do the chapter Yeah, so that was our song of the month, Snaky with Raging Seas.
SPEAKER_03My god, this tune is stuck in my head. 100%. And he didn't do too well too bad either during the the road march. Um scooping up third place. Snakey with raging seas. So yeah, he did good. Absolutely. Then second place, we have the one the entertainer with speed, and first place, assuming that we'll also have a little snippet of after that. I announce it because we need to listen to it. Lil Carey with Mayhem.
SPEAKER_05Mayhem.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, mayhem, big shoot. Let's have a quick listen before we move on, okay?
SPEAKER_05Mm-hmm. Let's go. And that was Mayhem by Lil Carey. So that song definitely sounds similar to Bury All.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it does. Yeah, it does.
SPEAKER_05But if it works, it works. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I'm I'm honestly when I heard that that won, I was surprised, but I was surprised from a I'm not in spice mess surprise, if you know what I mean. Yeah, it's actually. I'm on my couch. So it doesn't count to be surprised. Like you have to be there to experience the energy of the song, I guess.
SPEAKER_05So it's always different when you're there in the action, you're hearing the songs that are being played over and over again on the road, etc. etc.
SPEAKER_03Yep, yep, you know. Absolutely. Well congrats to Yo Carrie, for sure.
SPEAKER_05Congrats, second year in a row, winning very much. Big up him, boop, boop, boop, and all that jazz. Get me.
Antigua Road March And Season Check-In
SPEAKER_05Yeah, now we are going to hop over to Antigua. Antigua was the exact same time as Cropover, so we really should have done Antigua and Cropova together, but we didn't, and we moved. So Antigua Road March. Third place, they have Shake It Off by Dan Knowledge. Second place was Soka Villain and Island Prince with Gian Siddhan. And in first place was a song called Bangy Line by Balo. I've actually never heard of that artist before.
SPEAKER_03No, no. Well, he might be very big in Antigua for all I know. I'm not very well versed in uh I should be. But you know, this might be the good uh moment to get into it.
SPEAKER_05No, definitely, definitely. So let's have a quick listen to Bangy Line by Balo.
SPEAKER_03Yup, let's go.
SPEAKER_12Yo, Balockey, jerk it.
SPEAKER_11Play hard. I got a last kill. I gotta skill a castisabada.
SPEAKER_03And that was Bolo with Bangiline. Um I think we ran out of carnivals to uh discuss at this point, uh Charles.
SPEAKER_05Carnival slash festivals.
SPEAKER_03Absolutely right. Uh absolutely right. It's about to get beaten up again.
SPEAKER_05Dang.
SPEAKER_03But yeah, I mean, it is well, it's not the end of the season yet because we still have one major carnival or festival coming up. Is this a festival? Miami Carnival? Sorry. Yeah, it's definitely a festival. That's why it's called Miami Carnival. Yeah, there you go. Clear as day. Anyway. Yeah, we still have Miami coming up. I'm just gonna call it Miami now. Um, and after that, it's the waiting.
SPEAKER_08What the hell?
SPEAKER_03Hey, I don't I don't decide these things, you know.
unknownWhat?
SPEAKER_03I'm not in the commission.
SPEAKER_05Miami Carnival. Isn't the name?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but who knows? They might identify as a festival. Oh my goodness. Oh my goodness.
SPEAKER_05Listen, Akio, did you go to high school or did you go to school to get high? What did you do?
SPEAKER_03What was high school?
SPEAKER_05What did you do?
SPEAKER_03Kidding. No, okay, fair. Okay, anyway, Miami Carnival's coming up, and after that is waiting for Trinidad again. So, uh well, we have some for running in the middle, of course, but yeah. And don't forget St. Kids. St. Kids, and yeah, yeah, fair enough. Some Independence Days as well that are interesting for Soka anyway. Um, it's always a vet anywhere, somewhere, obviously. Yeah, yep, yep, yep, yep. But for this episode, let me put it that way, um, we have discussed all that we want to discuss.
Notting Hill Gigs And Wrap Up
SPEAKER_03So, is there any event coming up in the London Great area, Charles, that we need to know of?
SPEAKER_05Oh, Notting Hill Carnival! Yeah, how can I forget about Notting Hill Carnival? That's my home. That's crazy. Yes, Notting Hill Carnival this year is the 30th and 31st of August. I am playing with a band called Mangrove. Um, yeah, I'll be playing on a few fets as well. I'll be playing on Olympia Carnival Friday, which is the day that this episode drops. I will also be playing on an event done by Soka Karaoke people called All Hell Breaks Loose, Groovy versus Power. And I'll also be playing on a breakfast party called Ruckata. It's a very well-known party, you know, very well-known brand, should I say. So that's Carnival Saturday morning, which will be the day after this drops.
SPEAKER_03Nice.
SPEAKER_05And then I'm chilling. I'm chilling, really. You know what I'm saying? It's been a very busy summer. Yep. Gearing up for Miami.
SPEAKER_03Nice. That is it.
SPEAKER_05So yeah. That is it.
SPEAKER_03That is it. So next time we'll be discussing Notting Hill Carnival, of course, because there's always something that needs discussing. Until then, make sure you get updated with the latest Ahsoka. Um, prepare for your for Miami. There's always gonna be some drops for Miami anyway. And yeah, man. SPEAKER_05Not a little ting, man. Can't small up the ting. Five years already. It feels like we just started yesterday.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, well, I mean, also doesn't feel that way. But yeah, I hear what you say.
